The MSD 6A (pn 6200) is the base model of the capacitive discharge multiple spark 6 Series design. Whether you have a powerful street machine, hard working truck or trick street rod, the powerful multiple sparks of the MSD 6A will ensure complete combustion. Benefits such as quicker ET’s, easier starting, reduced plug fouling, more power and even increased fuel economy can be expected with the 6A’s high energy multiple sparks. Like all of the MSD 6 Series Ignitions, the 6A will work with virtually any vehicle as long as it has a 12-18 volt electrical system. It can be triggered using breaker points, a magnetic pickup or the output of an electronic amplifier. All necessary parts and wiring instructions are included.

The MSD 6AL (pn 6420) shares the same proven circuitry of
the 6A with the addition of a built-in adjustable rev limiter. The
combination of powerful sparks with the safety of a Soft Touch Rev
Control is what makes the 6AL the most popular ignition control in the
world. MSD
first developed the Soft Touch rev control to prevent overrev damage to
your motor in the event of a missed shift or driveline failure. The rpm
limit is adjustable in 100 rpm increments with MSD’s plug-in modules.
When the engine reaches your selected limit, the Soft Touch circuitry
begins dropping the spark to various cylinders. On the next cycle, these
plugs are fired again to prevent fuel from loading up in the cylinder.
The result is a smooth and accurate limiting action without backfires or
roughness.
The
Soft Touch Rev Control also opens the door for you to add rpm
accessories such as a Two Step Rev Control. A Two Step allows you to set
two rpm limits, one for a holeshot rpm and another for overrev
protection.
The
6AL is supplied with rubber shock mounts and modules for 3,000, 6,000,
7,000 and 8,000 rpm.

The MSD 6 BTM (pn 6462) is ideal for engines with a turbo or supercharger. Not only will the engine benefit from MSD’s full power CD sparks, but there is also an adjustable boost/timing retard circuit to prevent detonation. When your supercharger (turbo or blower) forces the air/fuel ratio into the engine, the cylinder pressure inside the combustion chamber increases. The result is a great amount of power but this can also lead to detonation which can result in severe engine damage. The 6 BTM lets you dial away detonation by retarding the timing in relation to the boost pressure. By electronically controlling the ignition timing your engine can run on the threshold of detonation to obtain maximum power and efficiency. The BTM features a dash mounted control knob that lets you adjust the amount of timing retard. It can be adjusted from 0° per pound of boost to 3° per pound. The boost pressure is monitored by a sensor built into the MSD. The 6 BTM also shares the Soft Touch Rev Control of the 6AL Ignition for overrev protection. The BTM is supplied with rubber shock mounts and rpm modules for 3,000, 6,000, 7,000 and 8,000 rpm.

powerful Digital Ignition available!
The
Digital-6 Plus is Digital Done Right! The heart of the Digital-6
Plus Ignition is a 15 Megahertz microcontroller, the fastest of all
digital ignitions. What this means is the controller analyzes up to
15,000,000 critical instructions per second! This is over three times
the speed of comparable ignitions and produces the most accurate trigger
signals, timing and rev limits possible. MSD engineers have spent an
endless amount of time testing the components of the Digital-6 Plus to
ensure the most efficient and reliable operation. The 6 Plus produces
more power with less current draw (20% less) by incorporating an IGBT
coil driver that can be controlled for improved coil saturation. Also,
power MOSFET technology and high frequency magnetic converters require
less input current while producing more energy and voltage. Every
spark of the Digital-6 Plus ignition is packed with 135 millijoules of
spark energy and up to 535 volts.
When used with the MSD Blaster HVC Coil, PN 8252, a spark with over 300
milliamps burns across the plug gap for 400 microseconds. Below 3,300
rpm the Digital-6 Plus produces a series of sparks that glows in the
cylinder for up to 20° of crankshaft rotation. This incredible heat
ensures combustion to produce great power, quick throttle response,
smooth idle and quick starts. To prevent any chance of Electro
Magnetic Interference (EMI) a filter circuit is made up of
state-of-the-art magnetic suppressor components. This, combined with the
more than competent microcontroller, checks and rechecks inputs many
times to determine “clean” signals before making any compensations. The
magnetic input also features a unique microcontrolled feedback circuit
for total EMI-free operation.

For late model vehicles that MSD does not offer a direct plug-in harness for, such as Dodge applications, we offer this new Universal Installation Harness. The Harness provides you an easy way to splice into the two wires going to the factory coil. The ends of the Harness are equipped with terminals that you crimp to the original wiring, then seal when heat is applied. With these installed, you can connect the MSD to the corresponding colored wiring to finish the installation. If you ever want to bypass the MSD or remove it, you can easily disconnect the Harness and plug in the factory coil wires. The Universal Harness features Perma-Seal and Weathertight Connectors to ensure sealed and locked connections.
The MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor Wire is "the" performance wire. Engineered
from the inside out, the 8.5 offers everything you have ever wanted in a
wire; incredibly low resistance without electronic interference! In a
single 12 inch length of Super Conductor Wire there is only 40 - 50 ohms
of resistance! That is the lowest resistance of any helically wound
wire. To accomplish this, we use a copper alloy conductor due to it's
great voltage carrying capabilities. The low resistance results in less
loss in spark energy so more reaches the spark plug. The conductor is
wound extremely tight around a special center core. So tight in fact,
that there is over 40 feet of conductor wrapped into a single foot of
plug wire. This winding procedure, combined with a ferro-magnetic
impregnated center core, produces an extremely effective Electro
Magnetic Interference (EMI) "choke".
This
choke, or suppression capability, keeps the EMI inside the wire where it
cannot interfere with other electronics on your vehicle. The outer
sleeve that surrounds the conductor assembly is just as impressive. A
proprietary blend of silicone and synthetic material produce a sleeve
that is highly resistant to high heat as well as abrasion and tears.

Iridium is a precious metal that is 6 times harder and 8 times stronger
than platinum, it has a 1,200=F higher melting point than platinum and
conducts electricity better. This makes it possible to create the finest
wire center electrode ever. Prior till now, spark plug manufacturers
have favored platinum for their long life or performance spark plugs due
to its high melting point, also the technology did not exist to machine
and bond iridium on a spark plug electrode (at least in a cost effective
manner). Champion spark plugs have produced iridium industrial and
aviation spark plugs since the 1960's, but they still sell for over a
hundred dollars per plug. Just now is the technology cost effective to
use iridium in a spark plug for automotive applications. The strength,
hardness and high melting point of iridium make it very well suited for
a fine wire plug. The primary iridium plug manufacturers at this time
are Denso with a 0.4mm center electrode, while Champion and NGK have
0.7mm center electrodes. These are the best performance plugs on the
